About Michelle Post

Picture
I recall my involvement with the visual arts began before 5th grade.  As a self-taught painter, sculptor, and printmaker, my education in the arts has been formed through associations and apprenticeships with artists I admired. Building on natural talent and affinity for art, I expanded my skills by seeking out opportunities to work alongside artists from whom I gained both knowledge and expertise.

In 1986 I joined the ranks of the many gifted artists at the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture, Hamilton, NJ. Here, surrounded by boundless creative energy and many opportunities for personal artistic exploration, my work continued to evolve. Sculpture became my main focus.

In 2002, my work at The Sculpture Foundation led me into a project that involved carving Styrofoam. The results of this project led to a new discovery, as I never considered myself a carver but was intrigued by the results. I continues to explore carving, particularly focusing on heads and busts. The high point in this exploration resulted in a 10 figure piece, cast in aluminum and painted to look like weathered stone, entitled The Oligarchs, which is permanently installed in at the Grounds For Scultpure, Hamilton, NJ.

I opened a gallery, The 1910 Building, on the second floor in my building that also serves as a studio, shop, living quarters in the rural countryside south of Jacksonville, VT. The gallery is a destination for Contemporary Art showcasing artists from the NE and Mid-Atlantic region. The building was originally built in the mid-70s for the Coombs’ maple syrup and candy enterprise located on Maple Hill Ln.

During the winter of 2025, I embarked on a surprisingly new direction with my art: poetry. Writing about being on a Harley after a 50 year absence, I combined my printmaking skills with viewpoints of being a passenger with an all-to-brief summer romance to pen Along For The Ride.
